New Year's Eve falls on a Thursday this year, and New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, is a bank holiday, so 31 December 2026 is a natural start to a long weekend in York. If you are looking for New Year's Eve events in York, here are the grown up options we have checked against each organiser's own listing or Visit York. All are ticketed with limited places, so it pays to book early.
The grandest night in the city is York's New Year's Eve Ball at the Merchant Adventurers' Hall, the medieval guild hall built in 1357. Guests arrive from 7pm to an open fire and a glass of sparkling wine in the undercroft, then take their seats in the candlelit Great Hall at 8pm for a three-course dinner. The band starts at 10pm, a Master of Ceremonies leads the countdown to midnight, and the evening ends at 1am. The dress code is black tie and ball gowns.
For a dinner rather than a ball, Peachey's Bar and Grill at The Milner York serves a four-course dinner from 8pm, starting with a glass of Prosecco, with a live acoustic singer through the evening and a toast at midnight to welcome 2027.
If you would rather dance, The Big Country Bash takes over The Silver Spur Saloon on Bridge Street, a few minutes' walk from the Skeldergate area, from 7pm to 1am. Expect three live music acts, line dancing and a midnight countdown. It is for ages 18 and over, and the organiser says tickets are non-refundable.
Just outside the centre on Bishopthorpe Road, Middlethorpe Hall hosts a New Year's Eve House Party. It is a hotel package, with a Champagne and canapés reception accompanied by a harpist at 8pm, a six-course black tie gala dinner, a jazz band and a firework display to welcome 2027, weather permitting.
Tips for your visit
- The celebrations carry on after the night itself: THOR'S on ICE in York Museum Gardens is open until Sunday 3 January 2027, and the York Minster Christmas Tree Festival, with 100 themed trees, runs until Tuesday 5 January, free with a sightseeing ticket.
- Christmas Day is Friday 25 December and the Boxing Day bank holiday moves to Monday 28 December, so the week between Christmas and New Year suits a longer stay.
- Check each organiser's page before you travel, as times and availability can change.
